Diabetes is a condition which is becoming ever more common, and there is a lot that can be done to reduce the severity of any complications from this disease.
We hold diabetic clinics on a regular basis with the practice nurse by appointment only.

What happens at a diabetic clinic?

Our practice nurse has a special interest in the care of diabetic people.
He will have arranged for you to have a blood test , before the clinic, to monitor your kidney function and to estimate how well your diabetes is controlled. You will need to bring a urine sample.

Regular diabetic checks can help to prevent the complications of the disease
They will measure your blood pressure, weight and foot pulses. They will test the urine for glucose and protein and discuss the results of your recent blood test. They will decide on any changes to your treatment that may be needed. They will check for any problems with your feet and eyes and discuss any problems that concern you.

How often do I need a check?

It is recommended that you have a check every 6 months. Once a year you need a check with the nurse. If there are any problems or concerns you may need to be seen more often.

Blood Tests - Blood tests are an essential part of monitoring diabetes and will indicate blood glucose levels.

Weight

Urine Tests – These will help determine kidney problems

Blood Pressure - This will be checked to make sure your heart is working properly.

Checking Legs & Feet – These will be checked for circulation problems.
